My Essentials…
The JenGreenDesigns bike-to-work skirt is an essential part of my bike commute. This piece allows me go from my bike to the office seamlessly. It frees up time, eliminates hassle, and looks great. Of course this skirt isn’t the only essential piece of equipment I rely on for my daily commute. Here are four more must-haves for my every day commute:
1. A great helmet at the right price. The Virginia Tech Helmet review offers great guidance on all types of bike helmets, including those for the urban commuter. You don’t need to spend big bucks to protect yourself! Of the 178 reviews, there are plenty of 5-star helmets under $100.
2. Saddle bags. The deeper and stronger the better! And reflective tape is good too. I love my Thule saddle bags. I can haul my computer from back and forth from my office, stash workout clothes for post-work yoga, keep my heavy bike lock close - and still have plenty of space for groceries on the way home, including that gallon of milk. Good saddle bags are worth the investment.
3. A reflector vest. I’ve taken to wearing a reflector day AND night. Why not? The extra visibility is comforting on Burlington’s busy roads. There’s loads of choices, but I’m partial to Vespertine. Who knew a reflector vest could be so stylish?
4. The right rain gear. While I appreciate NOT needing it, when I do, I’m always glad I have it! My favorite is Cleverhood’s Rain Cape. It folds up easily, goes on fast, and works perfectly with my skirt.
I bike to work nearly everyday and couldn’t do it without my essentials. They make life better.
